When you buy a digital camera, the most important thing you should look for is how many mega pixels (million pixels in the image) the photos it takes are. Cameras available today range from about 3MP at the low end to 10MP or more at the high end, with the price increasing steadily with each extra mega pixel.
However, how many mega pixels the camera has is not the only thing you should consider. Battery life is very important, as cameras with a short battery life can be frustratingly unusable, and the presence of various features in the cameras software like auto focus and digital zoom should also be a consideration, as well as the cameras ability to record non-photographic material like sound and video.
Ultimately, the best thing to do with digital cameras is to either buy the cheapest one you can find or a very high-end one if you go for something mediocre, you will just be frustrated at having paid a lot of money for a camera that isnt really all that great. If you are choosing between two cameras at a certain price point, it is almost always better to buy the one made by a known brand, as they will tend to have much better build quality, software and battery life, as well as being generally better-designed and easier to use.
As a final note, if you just want a cheap digital camera to take around with you and take occasional snaps of your friends and places you go, its well worth considering getting a mobile phone with a digital camera built in. As you take your phone around with you anyway, its no extra hassle to carry a camera phone, and the pictures they can take are rapidly increasing in quality, to the point where they are now where digital cameras were only a few years ago. As technology gets even better, a camera phone is increasingly becoming a very smart alternative to a digital camera for the casual user.

In deciding on a particular model, there would be other features and technical specifications that one would like to take into consideration. These could include brand name, zoom, flash, battery type and mega pixels. However, it is better to check-off the basic necessities before looking at the “nice to have” additional features in the digital camera of choice.

As a photographer myself, this is the camera that I wish I had as a child. Fisher price has made it very user friendly for children to handle and operate on their own. On the back of the unit, the kid tough camera has a 1.6″ color LCD preview screen. This camera is also equipped with two dual handle grips that make the unit very easy to handle for small hands. However, I seen firsthand, that even if your child drops this “brick” on the ground, it won’t even phase the darn thing. It just keeps on ticking.
To make it easier for little eyes to see it also has a two eye view finder.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that because of the price that this camera must not really work. It does a fairly decent job taking 1.3 megapixel photos with a 640×480 resolution for 4″x6″ prints. Sure, I can hear you saying, your cell phone takes higher quality than that but that’s beside the point. The kids love it. An personally, I’ve lost two cell phone due to my 4 year old running around snapping photos with it.
This isn’t just a point and shoot camera either. It has added little bonuses that you wouldn’t really expect like a built in 8 MB memory that’s good enough to store up to 60 pictures and a USP cord for computer connection. As if that wasn’t enough, it also has a SD memory card slot for those little ones with a fascination with taking pictures. We purchased the 1GB card and our daughter has never run out of space.
All in all the Pink Kid Tough Digital Camera provides a great outlet for your children’s creativity and offers them a fun, simple introduction to both photography and digital technology. Since it carries the well known Fisher Price “kid-tough” badge, you know the construction of this fully functional digital camera is sturdy enough and safe enough for even the heaviest handed small children.
Your children can take pictures at the park or zoo, or, thanks to the automatic flash, their next party.
This item is already receiving rave reviews from satisfied customers. Get yours today before they sellout in time for Christmas!

These cameras still use lenses in much the same way that conventional cameras do. Using an electronic system, a lower specification digital camera does away with film although it is still capturing the light as with a traditional camera. Up market versions us a different system again with a charged couple device, or CCD, being the capture system which transfers the light into an electrical signal. Images captured in what are considered to be the low-end cameras are using a CMOS device which competes directly with the CCD of the high-end variants.
The price has been depreciating recently and one of the main reasons for this is the introduction of CMOS image sensors; because CMOS sensors are less expensive and are easier to manufacture than CCD sensors. It would take an experienced digital camera enthusiast to see the difference between an images captured with a CMOS against the superior CCD system. There is no need to feel confused by the range and functions these cameras have if you are armed with a few basic facts which are provided in this article. From the point of view on having good quality photos, search for a high megapixel version as it will be worth it for the image you will capture with it; you may find a model that is being superseded shortly - available at a discount.
Unless your budget just won’t stretch that far, don’t buy a digital camera with only a digital zoom or you will find pictures that aren’t very clear when you print them; it is much easier to take exactly the image you want with an optical zoom. Rechargeable batteries can be charged up to a thousand times and save money, do you need any other advice for why they are best? Most models come equipped with some sophisticated software that can create interesting shots; just like some of these here:
Picture frame effects
B/W image conversion
Image editing
If you’re a photo freak, be sure that you have enough memory to take plenty of shots without worrying about storage. Digital storage has come down in price so buying gigabyte card will no longer require a loan but you shouldn’t think of having anything less than this.
Unless you intend to use your camera for serious photography there isn’t any need for a bulky very high specification version. Professional photographers may need heavy, bulky equipment but there is no requirement for a keen amateur to do so! I hope these few tips will help you choose a camera you enjoy using for a long time. The future of photography has moved on and digital cameras are that future with almost everyone carrying around one type or another every day!

First of all, an add-on flash is good for any photographer, professional or no. Some digital SLR cameras do not come equipped with flash, and thus, users are limited to using them when there is available light. A good off-camera flash is one that can eliminate shadows, highlight the lights in subjects’ eyes and freeze action without making the picture blurry. These are only some of its uses. Some add-on flashes have heads that can be twisted, which is also convenient.
Extra battery packs are absolutely necessary for those who travel alot with their camera, and for anyone who will not be having regular access to a charger. It’s always wise to carry a spare, and for digital SLR cameras, practically a must. They use a lot of power in a short span of time. A good idea is to always have spare batteries in the camera bag, so that they can easily be substituted when the original runs out of juice. That way, there is less worry and hassle on the owner’s part, especially when they are at an important event.
Since a lot of money was spent in order to get a digital single-lens reflex camera, it is only logical that it should be taken care of. This includes keeping the camera clean and in working condition at all times. A good way to do this is to use a UV or a skylight filter to protect the lenses. They are especially convenient when travsersing into dirty environments that may be wet or filled with dust. This way, the camera doesn’t get damaged.
Lens hoods are also recommended in order to reduce flare. Flare is an optical effect that can reduce contrast and color saturation in images, as well as create random light in the picture. If a digital SLR does not come with it already, then the lens hood should be bought as soon as possible.
For shooting professional pictures, such as photographs for sports, news, wildlife, magazines, important events, studios, commercials or documentaries, cable releases and remote triggers are a must. A tripod is also recommended if one is to use them. The best still shots are taken when the photographer is actually farther away from the camera, because he can just press the trigger that is connected to a wire leading to the camera. As a result, movement and shaking is minimized and the shot looks better overall. Wireless triggers are also available, but are naturally more expensive.
Choosing the necessary accessories is normally a tedious process, but this guide has just enumerated the ones that are must-haves. Very rarely are photographers with digital SLR cameras seen without them, because they make a life of photography so much easier.

These cameras still use lenses in much the same way that conventional cameras do. All the budding digital camera enthusiast needs to know is that despite the difference in how the image is captured, the ultimate effect is the same. A charge couple device is the light capturing device in the quality models that is used to convert light into electrical signals and as far as the user is concerned, an image is saved just like an ordinary device. While other low-end models use complementary metal oxide semiconductor or CMOS as an image device, most developers do not believe that it will replace the CCD for higher end cameras.
By using the CMOS sensor, many models have become more affordable for those users that do not require such a high performance device. The digital camera converts the light it receives like millions of minute solar cells and both the CCD and CMOS end up storing an image but just using a different method to do it. Some useful tips are mentioned here if you are currently looking for a camera like this. Look for models with over 6 megapixels and you won’t go far wrong as they will provide decent images; you may find a model that is being superseded shortly - available at a discount.
Where you have a choice, optical zooms on digital cameras are better than digital ones always; it is much easier to take exactly the image you want with an optical zoom. Although it shouldn’t be a problem, opt for rechargeable batteries as they can always come in handy and you don’t waste as much money on the disposable ones. Although most are supplied with a number of photo functions, try for as many as you can because you will appreciate the effects that can be achieved; functions like those listed here for instance:
*Special night time shots
*Web cam function
*Panoramic images
If you’re a photo freak, be sure that you have enough memory to take plenty of shots without worrying about storage. With higher resolution models now the norm, forget anything lower than 1GB of storage space if you want to save the image at the highest resolution.
For photographers who will keep the camera with them at all time you may want to consider one of the more compact types that can be carried in a shirt pocket. This way, it won’t always feel as heavy and bulky as those you see professional photographers are always dragging on their neck. Hopefully, these few tips will be enough to steer you in the right direction when you come to buy your camera. The future of photography has moved on and digital cameras are that future with almost everyone carrying around one type or another every day!

Surveillance cameras that are primarily used for monitoring but today their scope has not been restricted to government offices or banks.
Today, these CCTV cameras are applicable in houses as well. Cities such as London have installed several surveillance cameras throughout the city as a means of deterring and capturing criminals. Car theft is one arena where these cameras are extremely helpful. So much so is the advantage of security cameras that even cities like New York and Chicago are beginning to use surveillance cameras throughout the city. Though some people argue that surveillance cameras evade the privacy of people, thus stripping them of their civil rights. Critics have also charged that surveillance cameras are used more for social control than as criminal deterrents. However, with the rise in many anti social happenings, these cameras have proven to be very useful.
Initially these security cameras were analogue, but the digital phase has taken over them now.
These digital security cameras transmit their data feed via WiFi technology to the Internet. From there a digital video recorder or a computer can view the feed with a specially configured Web browser. The video recorders are thus able to store data feed to a DVD-ROM.
Apart from the digital video security cameras that are present in a variety of options in the computer hardware industry, digital still surveillance cameras are also available. These cameras are equipped with motion detectors that alert the camera to take a photo when any activity occurs. This camera is very much in methodology like the digital cameras that hold hundreds of photographs at one time.
In this world where a new technology is born everyday, there are a wide variety of options to choose from in the security cameras segment as well.
There are spy cameras that are the smallest and most powerful covert spy camera/recorder in the world. The micro hidden camera, though looks like an air freshener, is ultra-covert with 2GB of RAM for fast-action snapshot video when motion is detected. Then there is the night vision camera that capture footage even in complete darkness. This type of motion-activated wireless night vision camera has a 150 foot night vision range, which is capable of recording anywhere, anytime.
Many popular companies like Sony, today, are involved in the manufacturing of these CCTV cameras.
All one needs to do is to choose the one that suits one’s requirements. In recent times, they are used by many government branches, businesses and by private homeowners. Choose from Wireless Cameras, Hidden Cameras, Secure Recording Devices, and even Decoy Cameras to protect your home or office.

Skiers, bicyclists, skateboarders, motorcyclists, and other sports enthusiasts depend on tiny, lightweight helmet cameras to record fantastic footage of dazzling aerial feats that can be enjoyed over and over again with friends and family. As with all digital videos, footage is simple to edit and manipulate. You can even add special effects with a few clicks of the mouse.
For skiers, digital helmet cameras have become particularly popular. There are a few special considerations to keep in mind when looking for a helmet camera for skiing. First, you’ll be looking for a small, lightweight camera so as not to upset your balance on your skis. Look for a camera that weighs six to eight ounces or less, including the battery. Be aware, however, that the lightest weight cameras can be more expensive than heavier models.
Another consideration for skiers is to select a camera with a high mega-pixels and a high-quality lens. Often, people look only for mega-pixels, and don’t think about the fact that this number only denotes the number of ?pixels? or dots of color per square inch. Larger mega-pixels equate to an image that can be blown up to a larger size. For example, a low-mega-pixel camera can produce a video image that looks fine when displayed in a very small size. This may be fine for amateur enthusiasts or people that will want to look at the videos on their cell phones or mini digital devices, but for serious sportsmen and professionals, you are going to want a camera that produces images that will look sharp and crisp even when blown up to a larger size that can be displayed on a TV or laptop screen at full size. A high-quality lens ensures that the picture actually looks good ? not just is able to be blown up to a specific set of dimensions.
Finally, because skiers reach high speeds on the slopes, you’ll want to look for a camera that can provide image stabilization technology. This ensures that the video will look as if it were professionally produced. Other special image technologies, such as low-light performance enhancement, waterproof technology, and panoramic technology, are also essential.
Most helmet cameras are designed, as one might expect, to be mounted on a helmet. Without a helmet, you can take an old, lightweight, bike helmet, and attach it to that. You’ll receive all the tools and materials you need, as well as detailed instructions, to mount the camera to the helmet without damaging it. Or, you may choose to start with a hat, harness, or head-mounted flashlight. You can also select a camera that has a suction-cup mount or a quick-release to make attaching and detaching a breeze.
